The installation of Prof. Silas Sunday Dada FNMGS as the 29th President of the Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society (NMGS) took place on 8 July 2017 at the Banquet Hall of the Kwara Hotel, G.R.A.Ilorin at 10.00am
Prof. S.S Dada is a Professor of Applied Geology and former Provost of the College of Pure and Applied Sciences(January 2015 – February 2017) at Kwara State University, Malete near Ilorin; the pioneer Dean of College of Natural and Applied Sciences and deputy Vice Chancellor of Salem University, Lokoja (2009 to 2012.)
Prof. S.S Dada completed a B.Sc.in Geology from the University of Ibadan(1973) and while in the services of the Nigerian Mining Corporation, Jos, he obtained an M.Sc.in Applied Geology(Mineral Exploration option) in 1979 from the University of Ife, Ile-Ife(Nigeria).He proceeded to France in 1984 where he obtained Diplome détude Approfonide (DEA) in Petrology- Geochemistry-Structural Geology and PhD in Isotope Geochemistry and Geochronology from University of Science and Technology, Montpellier(France).From his post- doctoral research at the University of Paris (1990 -1991) to his return to Nigeria,
Prof Dada is currently in collaboration with the Geological Sciences Institutes in USTL Montpellier (France) UoManitoba(Canada),California (USA),Johannesburg (South Africa) working on Precambrian (Banded Iron Formation) and Cretaceous (oolitic/pisolitic ironstones) as well as cretaceous hydrothermal sulphide deposits for better understanding of solid earth and atmospheric evolutions as conserved in rocks using radiogenic isotopes applications.
As a member of the senior management he has administered the academic responsibility of institutions, leading several teams and committees through curriculum, college, laboratory, staff selection, appointments and other related developments-including internally generated (IGR) activities in Salem University.
He is currently the pro-chancellor and chairman of the governing council of Anchor University, Ayobo, Lagos.
He is a Fellow and the 29th President of the Nigerian Mining & Geosciences Society (NMGS).
