Admission Into Membership

The admission, transfer or election into any class of membership of the Society shall be proposed as provided for in the approved Application Form.

The application of any person being considered for Fellowship must be signed by four Fellows of the Society and forwarded to the General Secretary along with the curriculum vitae, highlighting areas of distinction in the professions and services rendered to the Society. The proposal shall then be considered and approved by at least four fifth of the votes of members present at the Council meeting.
The application form of any person desirous of becoming a member shall be signed by at least four Members and shall be accompanied by copies of certificates of academic attainments. A candidate must have spent at least three years post-graduation to qualify for admission as Corporate Member.

The application form of any person desirous of becoming a Graduate Member shall be signed by a Professor or Head of his/her Department in the university or institution of higher learning or by any two members of the Society and shall be accompanied by copies of certificate of academic attainment.

The application form of any person desirous of becoming an Affiliate Member shall be signed by at least two members of the Society, his/her Head of Department or Employer and shall be accompanied by copies of his/her credential. Any affiliate member, who may wish to transfer to Corporate Class is advised to enroll into the Continuing Professional Development programme of the Society.

The application of any person desirous of becoming a Student Member shall be endorsed by a Professor or Head of his/her Department in the University or Institution. It is also hereby emphasized that only students whose names are on the register of their various institutions are eligible for registration as such. No one shall continue in the class of students for more than 6 months after the close of academic year in which the student ceases to be a full-time undergraduate or diploma student.

The application of any organization desirous of becoming Institutional Member shall be signed by at least two persons of its Executive body and two members of the Society.

The application of any person or organization desirous of being admitted into Artisinal Mining Operator and Technician categories shall be endorsed by at least four members of the Society.

The application form duly completed by candidate desirous of being admitted into any of the above stated categories shall be forwarded to Council through the General Secretary for consideration.

Subject to conditions of Bye-Law 15, a candidate whose application is approved by four fifths of the Council Members present at the Council meeting at which his/her application is considered shall be deemed elected or admitted and shall be notified accordingly.

It should be noted that only members of the Society who are FINANCIALLY UP-TO-DATE can sponsor or sign application of candidate for admission into any of these membership categories. No application of candidate for membership of the Society shall be considered until the candidate has paid the stipulated application.
